Gabriela Rojas, the founder and current director of Luz Del Mundo, studied for three years in a seminary and helped in other similar institutions throughout Bolivia. After moving to Plan 3000, she along with 3 other families had the desire to start an institution for the disadvantaged children in her neighborhood.
Luz del Mundo began allowing national and international volunteers into the program to assist in teaching the students. The first Bolivian volunteers were Joselo Torres and Esmeralda Rojas and the first international volunteer was Australian Mary Sear who all helped the students to participate in extra-curricular activities and also taught them the basics of the English language.
Luz Del Mundo has a Board of Directors composed of four Bolivian nationals who control all the decisions of the institution, as well as formulate new projects that help to improve the standard of living of the students. The board meets with community members and the parents of current students on a regular basis to discuss progress of the institution.
Why was Plan 3000 chosen as the location of our institution?
We believe that Plan 3000 is full of potential for growth and development. and that the community members that work and strive for better lives. Luz del Mundo was founded in this area because we want to support and help those families who want to improve their children’s lives through educational support. |
